Our Story

Background

Dina Towbin began working as a communications consultant in 1992 in Washington, DC. She had left her job at an international development consulting firm where she had been managing overseas projects and writing proposals and reports. Throughout her career, international development has been her passion. She wants to help people improve their livelihoods, access education, and improve their overall health, nutrition and well-being.

Launching her Company

With a Master’s degree in International Affairs from the George Washington University and a strong technical and management background, she turned her sights to the consulting world—and still made time to make breakfast for her two young sons.

And with the breakup of the former Soviet Union, Ms. Towbin found new opportunities for innovative and creative proposal writing with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Conoco—now ConocoPhillips—was one of her first clients. She reviewed the company’s proposals to Congress to develop a community in Siberia with United Way. She transformed their presentation into a winning proposal for USAID. The project evolved into Polar Lights, a very successful joint venture in Russia for several decades.

Following her work with Conoco, Ms. Towbin worked with an ever-growing list of government contractors in both the public and private sectors. She took on contracts with the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank, and on other donor-funded projects in 13 countries.

Expanding into Publishing

She expanded her skills in the publishing world, writing and editing publications for USAID-funded projects and trade associations. She spent more than a decade coordinating publications (in print and e-versions) and editing reports for the World Bank. Ms. Towbin received several awards for her work streamlining production processes.

Access to Finance/Gender Finance in South Sudan

Ms. Towbin traveled to Juba, South Sudan for the IFC in 2013, where she served as a Communications Consultant on an Access to Finance/Gender Finance Project. There, she helped women entrepreneurs grow their business skills.

Growing Dina Towbin & Associates

Beginning in 2010, increasing client demand led Ms. Towbin to expand into a fully-fledged consulting firm. She added in vetted, experienced consultants to her team, as well as new services in fields such as graphic design, human resources, monitoring and evaluation, and technical assistance. The consulting team now produces blogs, case studies, infographics, proposals, reports, presentations and more for clients in a variety of industries.

As of 2019, Dina Towbin & Associates has signed agreements with a host of companies and USAID-funded projects. The fields covered range from economic development to health, nutrition, and knowledge management. See our Client Work Page for some of our most recent projects.

The firm is also an Approved World Bank Vendor.
